COOL COIN SHOWCASE #11, OCTOBER 26, 2026
A Quartet of Eye Appealing Quarters
In the recent Newsletter we presented a number of new Quarters we have to offer. Here, we add a quartet of perhaps the most eye appealing Quarters of the whole group. They span less than a half century of minting times from 1877 to 1921. Despite this narrow window of US coin minting history, each of these new examples represent a different series.
The first is a colorful representative of the Liberty Seated Quarter series. It is an 1877-CC example from the Carson City mint in CACG MS65. Quarters were produced in 8 years at Carson City from 1870 to 1878, only 1874 is missing. The mintages from 1870 to 1873 were very low, 4,000, 22,850, and these are all rarities in the LSQ series, with the the rarest being the 1873-CC with only 5 known. One has to have a very large budget to obtain any or all of these in CAC/CACG (~20 or less for each year, 1 for the 1873-CC) if they ever come available. Thankfully, in l875 to l878 the yearly mintages were 140,000 to 4,944,000, and are available in various grades and quality. However, even these do not come up often in MS65 or higher grades that meet the standards of CAC/CACG. The only 1877-CC MS65 Quarter auctioned over the last several years was a non-CAC example with a nice fingerprint splotch in the obverse toning that was sold at Stacks-Bowers in March, 2026, and then again at Heritage in July, 2026, for $3,480, and $3416, respectively. In fact, the only CAC/CACG example in ≥65 in the PCGS auction database from 2024 on is a largely untoned example in PCGS MS65+ in 8/24 for $3240. Hence, despite the availability the high MS grade examples don't show up that often.
Here is the example that we are offering. The colorful eye appeal is readily apparent and thus represents an uncommon opportunity to obtain a gem CC Quarter. You can click on the image and it will take you to the listing on our Product webpage:
The next Quarter we are offering here is a 1893 Isabella Commerative Quarter from the World's Columbian Exposition. It is in a PCGS MS64 vintage OGH holder with a CAC sticker. These are seen in auctions more often than 1877-CC quarters in MS grades, but those that meet CAC/CACG expectations are infrequent. The PCGS database has 3 MS64's auctioned since 2021, but none in the last 4 years. These ranged from $800 to $1500 closing prices, and none of the 3 display the vibrant and colorful toning of the example we offer here across the full surfaces.
Here is the example that we are offering. The colorful toning and luster is readily apparent and thus represents an uncommon opportunity to obtain a near gem Isabella with dripping eye appeal. You can click on the image and it will take you to the listing on our Product webpage:
The 3rd example we are offering in this CCS is an 1898-O Barber Quarter. It is a gem that resides in a PCGS MS64 with CAC acceptance. The 1898-O is a better date, although all Barber Quarters that meet CAC/CACG standards in MS64 and above are exceedingly uncommon. For the 1898-O there are 10 in MS64, 0 in MS65, and 5 in MS66-68 in the CAC/CACG database. The PCGS auction database shows no 1898-O examples since 2020 in ≥64. None. So if one wants to obtain a near-gem or better in CAC/CACG, well............
Our example shown below is bursting with luster and should in our opinion be at least a 64+ and perhaps on any given day, even higher. Colorful rim toning and no major hits. It certainly belongs with the other 3 we present here in terms of extrodinary eye appeal. You can click on the image and it will take you to the listing on our Product webpage:
Finally, our last offering in this CCS is a lovely representative of the Standing Liberty Quarter series. It is an 1921 in a CACG MS65 holder. This gem is has the vibrant deep orange toning highlights that original SLQ's can have. This is the most 'common' of the 4, but with only 1 example in the PCGS database auctioned in the last 3 years with CAC acceptance.
Just a lovely example with originality exemplified in the toning across the surfaces. You can click on the image and it will take you to the listing on our Product webpage:
So there it is - a Quartet of Quarters from 4 different series all in near-gem or gem MS grades, all with great surfaces and eye appeal. As always you can email us at desertmoonnm@yahoo.com to reach out to us about any of our offerings including these 4.
Thanks for your interest and reading this CCS!
Best, DM
