1884-O Dollar, MS65 DMPL
During the FUN Show Dealer Wholesale event, I was able to look through a double row box of certified DMPL Morgan Dollars. Out of those 40-50 DMPL's, this one stood out. It was the Queen of the Ball. It is an 1884-O in PCGS MS65 DMPL. CAC is extremely strict on DMPLs and their mirrors, so when they approve one, rest assured it really is DMPL. Surprisingly, despite 1884-O being a common date, there are few auction records for MS65 DMPL CAC. One occurred at Great Collections in 11/22 where it sold for $4135. Another went for $1560 at Stacks-Bowers in 9/25 that had heavy brown staining and some spots. Another sold at Heritage in 3/23 for $1560, 3 years ago before the current run up on numismatic prices.
This example is a perfect MS65 with gem flashy luster, deep mirrors required by CAC, and minimal marks. Just an uber PQ example for the grade. The price in MS66 DMPL is 4 times that of this example, so an MS65 DMPL is nice value.
This coin is approved by CAC.
