1862 Cent, CACG PR65CAM
This is an 1862 Indian Cent, in Proof 65 Cameo. It has deep mirrors in the fields giving it a nice cameo look on the devices. Only 550 proof cents were minted in 1862. Rick Snow notes in his Indian Cent Attribution Guide book that the proofs of this year are of 'extraordinarily high quality'. There were two die marriages, each with its own obverse and reverse dies, each with an estimated mintage of 225. This is the second die pairing which Snow calls PR2. It is most easily identified by the die marks next to the 1 and below the 8 in the date.
Copper-Nickel Indian Cent Proofs that meet CAC's expectations of quality for the grade are always hard to come by and this one clearly exemplifies the 'exceptional' statement in the Attribution Guide.
