Here is an 1856-O Liberty Quarter Eagle.  It is in a CACG AU58 Gen 2 holder.  It has a rich and original patina underlain by golden surfaces.  A nice cartwheel luster is manifested when rotating under the light. Just an uber pq example for the grade and the kind of gold coin we only like to offer.  Ooh..................
 
 In our experience, pre-civil war quarter eagles exhibiting such originality are very difficult to obtain.  Doug Winter verifies this, and notes than 'this issue is rare with natural color', and 'high grade pieces with natural coloration are among the rarest quarter eagles from this mint'.  Indeed.  In either case, Doug ranks this #4 of 14 in overall rarity, and #2 for high grade examples of O-Mint quarter eagles.  CAC examples justify these conclusions.  Only 30 have met the grading standards of CAC/CACG with 9 in AU58, and then 4 in MS at the grade of 62.  That's it folks, hence this example of a very rare quarter eagle is amongst the finest know.  To get an MS coin in CAC/CACG will cost over $40,000, so in AU58 this is in a value zone and represents an opportunity to obtain one of the rarest O-Mint Quarter Eagles in pq condition for a reasonable price.
