1831 Dime, PCGS MS65
Here is an 1831 Capped Bust Dime, in PCGS MS65. This gem bust dime is the JR-5 die variety. As consistent with a gem grade, this very lovely example has nice cartwheel luster when rotating under the light on both sides with no detracting marks. Nearly blast white with a touch of amber toning near the rims on both sides and more so on the reverse. What is remarkable to us is how frosty it is - thick, and certifying that clearly this lovely example has not been messed with as even a light chemical treatment would have affected that frost and reduced it, if not completely removed it. This is how a spectacularly preserved dime from the 1830s should look like in all of its stunning eye appeal.
This very coin can be traced back to a Legend auction in December of 2017 where it went for $7050, then to Stacks-Bowers in March of 2021 for $7800. A different example of a nearly blast white 1831 dime in MS65/CAC, sold at Heritage in July of 2022 for $8700.
This coin is approved by CAC.
