1825 Capped Bust Half, PCGS XF45
Here is wholesome and flashy 1825 Capped Bust Half in PCGS XF45. It is die marriage O-104.1 (.1 = earliest die state in BHNC terms), considered to be R4+. The obverse is darker than the reverse, but viewing under the light brings out the navy and aqua toning. The reverse is dominated by amber to russet toning with underlying untoned steel color. The reverse devices have mint frost in recessed areas. The surfaces have a ’sparkle’ that we see on coins that have never been cleaned with harsh agents. Both sides have a flashy cartwheel luster under the light, unusually strong for an XF coin and more often seen in upper AU bust silver. Our first impression upon viewing it was, why is this coin in an XF holder instead of AU? Likely the obverse was penalized for being a touch dark is all we can figure out and probably it was deemed upper XF wear. In summary this is a very strong XF45 and would stand out amongst a group of XF coins side by side.
This coin is approved by CAC.
