1821 Dime, PCGS AU53
This 1821 Large Date Capped Bust Dime in PCGS AU53/CAC is the die marriage JR6. It is dominated by aqua toning on the peripheries of the obverse and reverse. The devices still have some mint frost in recessed areas, and nice silky luster is evident when rotating under the light. Just another strong for the grade, no problem early US coin that we love to obtain.
Of the 7 Large Date 1821 die marriages, there are only 5 examples that have met CAC standards in AU53. In AU55 and AU58, there are a combined total of 15 more. That equates to around 3 for each die marriage in mid- to high-AU grades. So it is not surprising that the last auction records for CACed AU53 coins were in 2021 where two came up at Heritage and went for $1920 and $1440, the former was also a JR6. Both of these were more heavily toned and in our opinion not as eye appealing as the example we offer here.
This coin is approved by CAC.
