Here is an 1821 Capped Bust Dime in PCGS MS63.  It is the Small Date variety and die marriage JR-8.  Normally MS graded early dimes are found in shades of gray and if dipped, silver. But this lovely example has the classic progressions of amber, rose and deep blue - the kind of toning that many think of as old album toning and well may be.  We love it when we can occasionally find them looking like this as they represent the stand outs in their class. And this one of course has the coveted Gold Sticker meaning CAC believes this example to have qualities that exceed the grade on the slab. John Albanese has said numerous times in interview videos that CAC only awards the Gold Sticker if their grade is at least 1.5 times greater than the grade given. Hence, for this stunning large-diameter Capped Bust Dime, we believe the grade to be at least MS64+.
