1818 Capped Bust Half, PCGS MS63
Here is 1818 Capped Bust Half in PCGS MS63. it is the ‘Pincer 8’s’ variety, the O-108.1 (earliest die state = .1). As shown in the images, the 8’s in the date have a notch missing at the top, so a particular number punch was used only on this die that must have had a ding in it, hence the Pincer 8’s variety. Pretty cool and clearly distinct. This coin is an uber pq MS63 with totally original surfaces. The obverse and reverse have slightly different toning patterns. The obverse has deep blue-green to amber progression inward along the rims. It also has some light, parallel, amber-toned dashes running NNE to SSW. The reverse has dominantly amber tone, and even lighter parallel amber-toned dashes running NW to SE. I (DM) have an 1818 bust quarter in P62+/CAC with the same subtly-toned parallel dashes on the surfaces. So this must have something to do with the distinct nature of some of the 1818 planchets used. The cartwheel luster comes out nicely under the light, mint frost is present in the protected areas of the devices, and no detracting marks are present. Just a lovely, uber pq and original for the grade Pincers 8 variety.
This coin is approved by CAC.
