1811 Capped Bust Half, PCGS MS63
Here is a delightfully vibrant 1811 Capped Bust Half in PCGS MS63. It is the Small 8 variety and specifically, Die Marriage 107, which is considered to be R4. It is the 4th die state (i.e 107.4) and is identified by the die crack trending NE-SW from the leaves beneath the left wing, through the top of the shield and across the eagles neck into the field as observed in this example.
This example has no major detractions. The toning is mostly light and gray overlying original untoned surfaces. In just the right angle to the light and in particular along the edges of the obverse and reverse, the toning has very light pastel colors that one can observe the beginnings of in the images we show. It still has its original cartwheel luster that rotates through nicely, mint frost in the recessed areas, yet the toning over it also looks very original - some hints of grunge here and there, that if it were cleaned, would have been an obvious target. So dipped or cleaned examples will likely have had this 'grunge' removed. The fact that it is there - marvelous.
