1801 Draped Bust Half, CACG VG8
Oh my! We totally, like, TOTALLY, love it when we find a bust coin that is very worn with such gorgeous toning! We like, you know, wish we could keep it, but alas, can’t run a coin shop that way. So of course within a millisecond of seeing this uber cool coin at a dealers table at FUN we said, ‘we will take that one!’. We weren’t even thinking about the fact that it is also the tougher date in the Large Eagle Draped Bust Half series as well (BONUS!), we were just thinking, look at the COLOR!
So this might be one of, if not, the most, eye appealing-colorfully toned, VG 1801 Draped Bust Halves in existence, of for that matter of the whole Draped Bust series in VG that meets CAC standards. It is graded VG8 by CACG and is the O-101 die marriage. Simply put, they don’t come any better than this in VG and this one was likely curated in one of those old albums for decades to acquire such a stunning palette of ringed tones along the edges of the coin going towards the center. Ooh, ooh, ooh. We love these kinds of coins but find only a few a year despite seeing 1000s…………….. To make matters even more enticing, only 5 1801’s have been CACed/CACGed in VG8, 4 in VG10, and 3 in F12. So really a very hard coin to find that meets CAC standards and even more hard to find them with such colorful eye appeal.
